By the decision of the Government of the USSR RUDN University was founded.

The preparatory faculty started Russian language classes for foreign students.
The name of Patrice Lumumba, one of the symbols of the struggle of the peoples of Africa for independence.
Six main faculties (Engineering, History and Philology, Medicine, Agriculture, Science, Economics and Law) began their classes.
First issue of Druzhba university newspaper.
Druzhba sport club created. First chair of the club – Chief coach of the USSR athletic team I.Mudrin.
First student games in 6 kinds of sport.
The university was admitted to the International Association of Universities (IAU).
The first graduation of 228 young specialists from 47 countries of the world. Creation of International Student Construction Brigades (ISCB) and KVN teams.
The construction of a new educational complex of the University in the South-West of Moscow was started.
Rector (1970-1993) Vladimir Frantsevich Stanis, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, who proclaimed the "cult of knowledge" at the University.
The University was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples for its services in training specialists for Asia, Africa and Latin America.
By the decision of the Government of Russia, the University got a new name – Peoples' friendship university of Russia.
